About the Workshop
For several years now, a continuous effort to contribute to the body of knowledge in the area of self-adaptive systems has been made by various researchers. Areas, such as domain modelling, configuration, and systematic engineering to anticipate the need for and facilitate the ability of runtime adaptation, have been topics of steadily increasing interest in the research community, but are still lacking viable solutions. Similarly, the research community of cyber physical systems has recognized the increasing number of challenges in this up-and-coming research field resulting from the interactive and heterogeneous nature of cyber physical systems. For both, self-adaptive systems and cyber physical systems, the consideration of holistic engineering approaches with a particular emphasis on the early phases of software engineering (i.e., requirements engineering and conceptual modelling) are needed to guarantee highly qualitative products. In consequence, given the interactive and context-sensitive nature of self-adaptive and cyber physical systems, the list of open research topics in requirements engineering overlaps to a large extent. The mission of the Fourth International Workshop on Requirements Engineering for Self-Adaptive, Collaborative, and Cyber Physical Systems is to foster the exchange of ideas and is hence of great interest for both communities.
Workshop Scope & Topics
The Fourth International Workshop on Requirements Engineering for Self-Adaptive, Collaborative, and Cyber Physical Systems (RESACS) seeks original reports of novel ideas, emerging trends, and elaborations on the current state of practice and state of the art on any topic relevant for requirements engineering or conceptual modelling under special consideration of self-adaptation of systems and development processes, collaboration between systems, human-aspects of self-adaptive and collaborative systems, interaction between humans and systems, and cyber physicality of systems. Examples include Autonomous Vehicles, Smart Cities, and Social Media Systems.

This year, RESACS is especially encouraging contributions pertaining to the area of “Autonomous Driving.” Motivated by the discussions of the previous years, autonomous vehicles are becoming a real market- and innovation driver and serves as a example platform for challenges, solution concepts, and emerging ideas in terms of adaptation, collaboration, and cyber-physicality of systems.

We intend to conduct the workshop in a highly interactive format combining different elements. Classical paper presentations and a keynote shall lay the foundation for discussions. Particularly, we intend to provoke discussions aiming at gaining an understanding of commonalities and differences of the different types of systems.
The target audience of this workshop is industry practitioners and researchers, academic researchers, as well as consulting practitioners in the field of software engineering with a focus on SAS and CPS. In the past, the workshop audience was diverse, ranging from embedded systems research & development company representatives to information systems theorists.
In this year’s installment, we expect a similar mix of industry and research participation, but we do not expect the attendees to have a rich background in SAS, collaborative systems nor CPS. In this sense, the workshop will be geared towards the SAS/CPS novices as well as the advanced theorists. Any number of participants is welcome, the workshop is open to any interested individual.
